by Simon Kwan

An up-dated reprint of the original work Brush and Clay published in 1980, which has been out-of-print for almost 18 years. This book is a ground breaking study on the subject of early 20th Century Chinese ceramics and the innovative works by the reputed Eight Friends of Zhushan who were active in Jingdezhen during the early Republic period.

The publication of Brush and Clay had firmly placed the important role of the Jingdezhen ceramic artists of the Republic period in their rightful place in the history of Chinese art.

All photographs retaken. Text revised.
