CHINESE BASKETRY The Muwen Tang Collection Series Vol. 09 by Simon Kwan The history of Chinese bamboo basketry can be traced back to over 5,000 years ago. It is one of the oldest form of Chinese craft. Very little change has taken place in Chinese basketry since the Neolithic period. This scholarly study outlined the basic techniques and designs of Chinese baskets in the past centuries. 157 pieces drawn from the Muwen Tang Collection dating from the Yuan through the Republic period are included in the catalogue section. |
