Western style Watercolour painting was introduced into China in the 19th Century. It is one of the most popular type of painting in China today. The subject is taught and practiced by all Chinese students. Over the years, Chinese watercolour painters had developed a unique style of their own, and a large number of talented artists and masterly works had surfaced during the last four or five decades. Yet, the subject relatively unknown outside China. This study is probably the earliest and most comprehensive work written in English on the subject. 100 pieces drawn from the Muwen Tang Collection are illustrated, bilingual text, with biography of the artists included in the Appendix.
